Quit Your Job
Straight up, my job is SO low key. I wish it wasn’t sometimes because I really like the heart behind what I am supposed to do. I like that I can help parents learn how to be the best versions of themselves for their children. But I don’t really get to do it enough because sometimes parents just don’t want help. I get that, too.
I tell you this because I want you to know that currently I don’t have a demanding job. I get to take time off with no stress. I get paid fairly, and I am not overworked.
I will also say, that I have boundaries in place so I am not overworked in my life in general, but we can get into that at another time.
I know this isn’t true for everybody. I have friends who have their dream job, and go home feeling worn out. I have family who work tirelessly because they need to feed their family that day. I know people who have jobs they hate, and aren’t burnt out. You have a reality when it comes to your job, and it’s valid.
What isn’t valid is the lie you’ve believed that your identity or worth comes from how many times you say yes when you can say no. Or that your value comes from working a lot and being the one who works after hours. You do not matter more because you are the one who can get the job done. You matter the MOST because of Jesus.
You are a person made in the image of God, and the last time I checked, that picture does not look like working too much, being happy too little and losing sleep with mountains of stress. Doesn’t Jesus say his burden is light? So why does everything feel SO heavy?
Friend, it’s your own doing. So I am here to cheer you on and encourage and give you biblical permission.
QUIT. YOUR. JOB.
quit letting it take your freedom.
quit letting it stress you out.
quit working when you clock out.
quit thinking losing your job is the worst thing.
quit losing sleep over it.
quit letting it control your life.
You have gifted freedom.
You have an entire creation to enjoy.
You have relationships that matter more.
You have people who need to hear the good news.
You have 8 hours of sleep waiting for you.
You have peace in Jesus.
You are not alone.
The actual worst thing, the true most terrible thing that can happen to you is impossible. You know why? Because Jesus dying on the cross paid it all. Nothing can harm you. Nothing can leave you behind. Yes, we have responsibilities, but the price is too high if its costing people, relationships and your freedom.
Working is a consequence of sin. But you are not a slave to sin, therefore, you are not a slave to your job.
